Managing Director and Co-founder
Christopher Kalnin co-founded Kalnin Ventures LLC in June 2014. Christopher oversees all activities of the investment fund, including oversight of the team, opportunity sourcing, valuation, asset management and other related activities.
Before founding Kalnin Ventures LLC, Christopher worked as strategist and vice president for Level 3 Communications (a Fortune 500 company) where he was responsible for developing long-term and global strategies for the company.
Prior to this, Christopher worked as a strategy advisor to the CEO of PTTEP, Thailand’s National Oil and Gas Company’s upstream company. During his time at PTTEP Christopher helped to shape the company’s international growth strategy, redesign the company’s new ventures processes and execute investments of several billions of dollars.
Prior to working with PTTEP, Christopher was a consultant with McKinsey & Company where he was responsible for developing and executing business strategies for a number of Global Fortune 1000 companies, including a strong focus on the energy sector.
Christopher also spent time working as a financial analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston’s Real Estate Capital Partners private equity fund, where he was responsible for valuing and underwriting over $1 billion in transactions. Christopher has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
Rebecca Kalnin, co-founded Kalnin Ventures LLC in June 2014. Rebecca oversees travel arrangements, corporate event planning and accounts payable.
Rebecca is also mother of three children. Rebecca has a variety of prior experience including a background in education. Rebecca has a MA in Curriculum Development for Bilingual Education from Arizona State University and a BA in Psychology from Westmont College, where she was NAIA women’s basketball All-American.
Prior to working with Kalnin Ventures, Rebecca worked in a variety of roles including Assistant Teacher at Red Hawk Elementary School, Flight Attendant with Continental/United Airlines and Missionary/English Teacher with Frontier Labourers for Christ. Rebecca is passionate about people and organizations, and is the driving force behind Kalnin Ventures’ focus on developing a deep network of relationships.

Joe has more than thirty years in oil and gas exploration, with significant success in evaluating and developing new ventures around the world, including the first billion plus barrel, deep water discovery in West Africa and emerging exploration and development opportunities in Iraq and Mexico. Joe began his career as a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and worked for Arco Oil and Gas and Maxus Energy before beginning a successful consulting career. In addition to his experience in conventional exploration, Joe began studying resource plays and using log parameters to map source rock maturity, dating to a study of the Bakken Shale in the 1980’s. Prior to joining Kalnin Ventures, Joe consulted on evaluations of the Bakken Shale, Fayetteville Shale, the Eagle Ford Shale, and several international resource plays.
Joe has been working with Kalnin Ventures since 2014 and has been an integral part of the team, sourcing, evaluating and conducting key analysis on on-shore North American unconventional opportunities. Joe earned degrees in geology at Dartmouth College, Southern Methodist University and a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. Joe is past-President of the Dallas Geological Society and an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, where he is currently serving a term on the Advisory Council.

Ethan is a new ventures focused reservoir engineer with 8+ years of experience working on unconventional resource plays. He began his career with ExxonMobil and worked extensively on reservoirs in East Texas, West Texas and California. Subsequent to Exxon, Ethan has served as a Reservoir Engineer for Newfield Exploration, Liberty Resources and Fidelity Exploration and Production.
Ethan joined Kalnin Ventures in 2015. Ethan brings deep experience in unconventional resources plays and has particular expertise in the Bakken/Three Forks, where he has conducted numerous analyses on the plays, including developing proprietary benchmarking software to analyze well performance across a range of operators.
Ethan is an alumnus from the Colorado School of Mines where he received his Masters in Petroleum Engineering. Ethan has also worked internationally with experience working in Myanmar, and studying abroad in China and Australia. When not busy with work, Ethan enjoys rock climbing, spending time with his wife and taking care of his new born son.

Matthew is the Vice President of Corporate Development with experience across many facets of the Oil & Gas industry. He began his career with Linc Energy, developing strategic plans and advanced financial models for the valuation of new projects. After Linc, Matthew started work for Samuel Gary Jr. & Associates (“SGA”), an independent exploration company located in Denver, Colorado. While at SGA, Matthew contributed to the geology, land and engineering departments by creating dynamic Excel models and merging data across all disciplines. Matthew spent extensive time analyzing drilling activity through detailed well-log analysis and interpretation. Simultaneously, he was actively securing new acreage by conducting extensive research on land title and developing and negotiating oil and gas leases.
Matthew joined Kalnin Ventures in 2015, bringing a strong foundational understanding of the exploration business along with the background and experience in building financial models. Matthew is an alumnus of Baylor University, where he received undergraduate degrees in finance and real estate, and of University of Colorado – Denver, where he received his Master of Science in Finance and Commodities Risk Management.
Matthew was born and raised in Texas, but married into a family of Colorado natives. He and his wife, Tessa, currently reside in Denver and enjoy spending time in the mountains across all seasons of the year with their two children.

Kathleen joined Kalnin Ventures as Controller in October 2016. Previously, she was an auditor with KPMG for over twelve years, mainly serving oil and gas clients based in Houston. As an Audit Senior Manager, Kathleen was a national firm instructor recognized for excellence and was tapped to help develop formalized oil and gas training for audit and tax staff serving clients within the industry. Kathleen’s clients were mostly oil and gas companies, ranging from small, privately-held companies to larger publicly-traded organizations with both domestic and international investments.
Kathleen has also spent time serving first as a science teacher for a public charter school program and more recently as Senior Director of Finance for a larger nonprofit missionary organization that serves college students.
Kathleen is a CPA graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor of Science – Business Administration, Accounting Option.
Outside of work Kathleen enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and children, skiing, skating, and biking. She also enjoys supporting her children’s activities, including fencing, track and competitive Irish dance.

Daniel is Vice President of Marketing with over 10 years of experience in marketing natural gas and liquids. He started his career at Upstream Energy Services in Houston, Texas where he measured, balanced, and scheduled natural gas production. After Upstream, Daniel joined the trading team at Total Gas & Power North America. During his 7+ years at Total, he was responsible for the downstream development of their equity production in the Barnett and Utica shales, as well as leading the business development and marketing for the Texas, Gulf Coast, and Southeast gas markets. In 2015, Daniel joined Antero Resources in Denver, Colorado where he optimized the company’s natural gas and liquids production while utilizing and expanding their robust midstream and downstream portfolio.
Daniel joined Kalnin Ventures in 2017, bringing his extensive knowledge and expertise in natural gas, asset optimization, and financial derivatives to help drive the acquisition of physical assets and increase portfolio value. Daniel graduated from The University of Colorado at Boulder with an undergraduate degree in Economics and minor in Finance.
Daniel was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He and his wife Angela moved to Denver in 2015 and have two boys, Jayden and Cooper. In his free time, Daniel is either on the golf course or enjoying the Colorado outdoors with his family skiing and hiking.

Mahesh brings over two decades of experience in software engineering and infrastructure design, architecture, implementation and overall solution delivery with an entrepreneurial mindset to the Kalnin team. He started his career as an integration consultant for Tobin, which was later acquired by P2. He brings a unique skill set to our team from his decades of hands-on experience as a Chief Solution architect for a leading Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) firm.
He led several teams around the world in successfully delivering solutions that are focused on enterprise program management solutions. His management principle is based on active engagement and lead by example. Over the years, Mahesh has applied his expertise on a range of projects at various capacities ranging from developer, lead and program management consultant.
Mahesh received his MBA from CU Denver backed by years of hands-on experience in mission-critical application design, development, and implementation. His credentials include several technical certifications: Oracle and SQL Server DBA, J2EE certified Architect, Microsoft certified architect, CCNA cloud, Azure Certified Developer specializing in micro-services, SharePoint, Dynamics and ASP.NET MVC, PMP, and PMI-ACP for project and program management. As a Certified Scrum Master and an avid practitioner of lean six sigma, Mahesh successfully lead and implemented various enterprise scale projects focused on program management solutions around the world. Over the course of two decades, Mahesh worked on various long-term programs and projects as a consultant for IHS, P2ES, Level3, Oracle, PB/WSP. Mahesh led and implemented several mission-critical projects in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Australia.
He loves spending time with his family & friends, mountain biking and camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. He loves to travel around the world for immersive cultural experiences. He is an active volunteer at the Colorado Indian cultural center serving as a treasurer and board member. As an active volunteer at NCSD during the winter, he loves teaching skiing for kids ages 5 to 10.

Tom has 30 + years of oil and gas experience focused primarily in the pressure pumping industry. He started as a management trainee with the Western Company of North America working in the Anadarko Basin in Western Oklahoma. He continued working as a supervisor in cementing and fraccing in the US. Tom started his international career as a frac supervisor in Russia and then as a cement and stimulation supervisor in Nigeria. He spent a large part of his time in Saudi Arabia working for BJ Services involved in the supervision and managing of cementing, coil tubing and fraccing operations. After working in Dubai as the HSE manager for the Middle East, Central Asia and Russia for BJ, Tom returned to Saudi as their country operations manager. From there he moved to Egypt where he was country manager and finished his overseas career in Thailand as an Operations and Safety manager. On his return to the US he spent over 5 years as a frac consultant with Anadarko Petroleum in the Niobrara shale in north east Colorado.
Tom received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Management and a minor in Accounting from New Mexico State University. He is currently working with BKV Operating as Vice President of Operations in their Marcellus Shale field in NE Pennsylvania. When not working, Tom enjoys spending time with his family and fly fishing.

Heather is a production and completions engineer with 9+ years of experience working mostly unconventional plays. She entered the industry working for ExxonMobil as a subsurface engineer in East Texas and Piceance Colorado before transferring as an operations engineer for XTO Energy in the Barnett Shale. Then she moved to Denver to work the DJ basin for Anadarko as a senior production/optimization engineer.
Heather joined Kalnin Ventures in 2016. Heather brings strong completions, workover, surveillance and optimization skills coupled with years of hands-on operations and field experience. She has expertise in artificial lift, specifically plunger lift and gas lift, which she has applied in both dry gas and oily unconventional plays.
Heather graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She also obtained her Professional Engineering license in Texas. In her free time, she enjoys playing music with her husband (violin, piano, and organ).
Shannon joined the Kalnin team in February of 2017. She has 19 years of experience as an administrative assistant and receptionist, with a varied background in real estate, underwriting and office management. Her maiden name, Wattenberg, traces back to ancestors who settled in Northern Colorado, atop what was to later be coined the Wattenberg Gas Field. Shannon is a Colorado Native through and through, and enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She looks forward to learning all that she can from the wonderful team at Kalnin Ventures.
Brent is a financial analyst with 3 years of consulting experience at Protiviti. As a Senior Consultant at Protiviti, Brent led audit and consulting engagements which focused on the reliability of his clients’ financial reports. In direct partnership with executive level client leadership, Brent created Board level audit reports which identified and analyzed financial and regulatory risks. Throughout his time at Protiviti, Brent found ways to use technology to streamline the analysis of large data sets, improve processes, and analyze financial risk.
Brent joined Kalnin Ventures in 2017, bringing a strong foundational understanding of risks and controls over financial reporting. Brent is an alumnus of Baylor University where he received undergraduate degrees in Finance and Management Information Systems. Brent was born in Texas, but grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia. He currently resides in Denver, where he enjoys working on cars, learning new musical instruments and spending time in the mountains.
Jessica has over 6 years of experience as an oil and gas industry geologist. She earned her Master's Degree in Geoscience with a focus on geochemistry from Penn State in 2011. After graduating, Jessica spent 4 years working the Marcellus with Chesapeake Energy as an operations geologist, where she focused on the logistical planning of drilling and geosteering of over 100 wells. Jessica was highly involved in working with other disciplines to help facilitate a value-driven drill schedule. Jessica's special projects included an XRD/XRF evaluation of drill cuttings to use as a tool for wellbore targeting. In 2015, Jessica moved to Denver and started work with Vantage Energy, where she was the primary geologist for the Barnett drilling program.
Jessica began working with Kalnin Ventures as a consultant in May 2017 and joined the team as a full time employee in December 2017. Her work has been focused on well log organization, regional petrophysical mapping, and geosteering to improve the structural models.
Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with family and friends. She enjoys attending mineral shows, winter sports, and traveling with her husband.

Jamie is the Director of Land with 7+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He entered the industry working with Weber Law Firm, a boutique energy law firm specializing in acquisitions and divestitures, oil and gas operations, and regulatory compliance. He then shifted his career from legal to land with Purple Land Management. At Purple, Jamie was responsible for managing the Rocky Mountain region for the company, as well as taking a leadership role on acquisition due diligence, project management, land owner relations, and asset management for dozens of clients across most prominent U.S. resource plays, including the Marcellus Shale.
Jamie joined Kalnin Ventures in December 2017 following months of working closely with the Kalnin team. His focus is on developing and managing Kalnin’s land department, working with the company’s landowners and partners, and assisting with new ventures.
He has a Juris Doctor from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College. In his spare time, Jamie enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, supporting Penn State football, searching for his lost golf balls, and skiing.
Brennen is an Accounting Manager with over 6 years of consulting and audit experience. He started his career with EY, serving public and private companies with a variety of financial statement audits and assessments on internal controls over financial reporting. After EY, Brennen spent 3 years with Protiviti focused on consulting with growing private institutions and advising on public company transformation efforts. As a Manager, he led consulting engagements over financial reporting process optimization, financial risk management, and operational risk assessments in order to develop efficient and scalable business solutions.
Brennen joined Kalnin Ventures in 2018, bringing deep experience in accounting and financial reporting process design, risk management, and business process maturity frameworks. Brennen is a CPA with an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Abilene Christian University and a Master of Science in Accounting from The University of Texas at Dallas.
Raised in Texas, Brennen currently resides in Denver and enjoys long drives, working out, and traveling – all with his wife, Elizabeth.
